World Green Building Week (12 - 16 September 2022), is an annual campaign that motivates and empowers us all to build greener buildings.
In World Green Building Week, this year, we are investigating how we can create a green, healthy and climate-resistant building for everyone. This year's social media hashtag is #BuildingforEveryone.
This year, the campaign aims to raise greater awareness of carbon emissions from all phases of a building's life cycle and therefore encourage new practices and new ways of thinking to reduce carbon emissions in buildings.
Did you know that buildings and construction are responsible for 39% of global energy-related carbon emissions? Of these emissions, 28% come from the operational "use" phase to heat, power and cooling, while 11% belong to carbon emissions, which refers to the carbon released during the construction process.
To date, the building and construction industry's focus has been on operational emissions and the actual use of buildings.
However, to be completely decarbonized by 2050 to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius, the construction industry must also tackle tangible emissions from the entire building lifecycle.
That's why, this World Green Building Week, we call on the entire building and construction industry supply chain to decarbonize.
